Owner, Old Main Icehouse
When locals want to relax and enjoy a cold drink, they often head to Old Main Icehouse, a sprawling 10,000-foot bar and live music event venue. At this popular destination, Nick Marquez has created a fun and unique atmosphere for his hometown community. He has helped revive downtown Cibolo with weekly open mic nights, rotating food trucks, live music, and a personable staff.
His love of Cibolo was part of the driving force behind opening Old Main. “It’s the most involved community, everyone wants to make a change, make a positive impact. We are a hard-working community and we all deserve to go out and have a little fun close to home.” Nick says.
An active participant in local happenings, Nick sponsors events such as the Food Truck Round-Up and CiboloFest. He also enjoys teaching high school drumlines — a part of a marching musical ensemble — and hopes to resume it again in the future. With a strong passion for music education, he acknowledges his high school percussion teacher, Rob Wheeler, as a source of inspiration.
Kelly and Lindsey Meyer, owners of New Braunfels Brewing Company, are also two of his greatest role models. “I [was] lucky to work for them and see how to run a business,” Nick points out.
In addition to Old Main Icehouse, he recently renovated and opened Aumont Saloon in downtown Seguin. He appreciates that his work provides him an opportunity to build relationships with his customers — relationships that often blossom into great friendships.
Nick also recognizes the impact that his family has on his life. “[They] mean the world to me. Without my grandparents, I wouldn’t be here today.” In fact, some of his grandfather’s advice has stuck with him throughout his life. “No matter what the situation, my grandfather would always tell me just three words, ‘Do the work.’” He didn’t understand what that meant at the time, but he sure does now. He likewise hopes to motivate others and inspire them to reach their goals.
Along with his business endeavors, Nick is considering running for office. Above all, he strives to better his hometown. “[This is] home and I appreciate this community so much. I hope I can give back as much as I can and make our community proud.
